On Thursday, October 28th The Farm Place held a fundraiser dinner and auction at the 4-H Fairgrounds in LaGrange, with the purpose of raising money toward construction of the Animal Companionship Center. More than 100 guests were served a delicious dinner prepared by Romer’s Restaurant of LaGrange, followed by an evening of fun.
Businesses and individuals from around northeast Indiana donated a variety of auction items, including family legal services from Linda Zabona-Wooster, a round of golf for four from Heron Creek, a gift certificate from Tire Star, and gift baskets from Mike & Shannon Miller. Auctioneer Steve McKowen from First Dibs Auction & Realty took bids from crowd, which was led off by a simple wooden stool that brought $1000. In all, the dinner and auction netted nearly $14,000. We are blessed by a generous community!
One of the highlights of the evening was a visit from Tucker, a three-legged boxer-labrador mix who is being trained by board member Jackie Myers to serve as a therapeutic animal for The Farm Place. Board member Levi King said, “Kids will just gravitate to a dog like that, and it helps in the counseling of these children. Some of these kids have been through so many counselors, and the walls just go up, they don’t want to see another counselor. But put a puppy, or a sheep or a cat, a horse to ride into that equation, and you’ll see those walls come down.”
Thank you to all our northeast Indiana neighbors who have given so generously toward The Farm. We appreciate you!
